which on second thoughts would probably attract applause at an urban poetry reading!
Anyway, less amusing is that right wing pricks Little Green Footballs were allegedly advertising this scam (and that's what it is, an outright scam) as shown in this frozen screenshot.
Like lefty, I too received this information from a conservative source who assures me that LGF were told they were profiting from a scam but did nothing about it.
These remain allegations and I welcome information to refute them. If they were true then Little Green Footballs would be little better than the 'Nigerian Letter' writers.

Readers Digest practice similar scams and they're sold in newspaper stores right around the world.
Remember Amway? They've never gone away. They just changed the name of their scam, and continued selling it to the same sort of people.
Scientology - despite being a similar scam that preys on people's spiritual and mental insecurity - is accepted as a religion.
You could probably even find similar ads on Mr Lefty's blog - the blog ads on the side plug anything from political DVDs to the lowest 'self-empowerment' books by psychologists out to make a quick buck.
I'm not condoning Poetry.com. They're a scam alright. But if we're not overly concerned about Reader's Digest, Scientology, and Amway, then why should we worry about poetry.com? There are worse crimes to concern ourselves with.
I am in favour of more poetry (but not scams). Two years ago I attended a soiree at the Sydney Writers' Festival. It was an exhibition of poems written by erudite Australians (eg. John Clarke). Each poem was hung next to a painting or drawing of poet. It was free, wonderful and organised by the following group:

Scams like this poetry.com are really low. Giving people lofty ideas about themselves just to extract money from them is dirty and despicable. I can imagine how they feel later.
I compare it to pimp 'clairvoyants' who use people's grief to make money from them by pretending to communicate with dead relatives.
Frauds. Swine. I'd jail them forever.
Splatterbottom,
Follow the links on Mr Lefty's post. You'll find that he got tipped off about the suicide ads from a post that I made!
I think he's taken ads off his blog now, anyway.
++These are necessary for blogs attracting leftist readers, as they are all crazed one way or the other and likely to self harm. The conservatives who visit there are usually worse. In fact anyone visiting leftist blogs is by doing so indulging in self mutilation of their common sense.++
Splatts, aren't you one of the most frequent conservative visitors to Mr Lefty??
Indeed, I confess I agree that your common sense has clearly suffered somewhere along the way.
=)
