Songs for Little Bear

Had the guitar out a couple of times, at others I just have a bash A Capella, but so far little Bear has had to put up with the following choices of nursery rhymes from dad...

Waiting for an Angel (which I sang to myself at 3 in the morning to keep calm while organising the car and massaging beloved's back through the contractions)
Hallelujah
I still haven't found what I'm looking for
Amazing Grace
Let it be
Paper Aeroplane
Silent Night
(guess the inspiration there!)
Sleep (called something else, can't remember, U2 Unforgettable Fire)
All you need is love

and several original with lyrics like "why why baby cryin'? [rpt 4 times] daddy loves you yes he does [note early stages of hormone- induced parental retardation.].

No, lyrical appropriateness is not a factor at this stage!

Any suggestions?

In other news beloved's recovering well, Mao's pretty chilled and interested, Minh's slightly depressed, but I've got lotsa love action going out 4 ways at the moment keeping them all reasonably content (if I may say so myself!).

UPDATE: New songs from the afternoon session...

Karma Police - Radiohead
Lonesome Road Blues - Big Bill Broonzy
Daughter - Pearl Jam
Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden
Hunger Strike - Temple of the dog

with all but the first sung along with full chord accompaniment on the nylon string. Can report that the high parts of Karma Police went down particularly well!

When I was changing my daughter's nappy when she was newborn, I used to sing "Riding along on my pushbike, honey". As I sang, I'd "cycle" her legs gently in the hope that it might get rid of any tummy aches - she seemed to like it.

Oh yeah, forgot to say that my husband wrote a song called "Go to sleep little girl, we're all tired and want to sleep too..." He eventually recorded it, and half way through, our baby woke up and started crying. You can hear him saying "Oh, you've lost the dummy, here it is", and then he resumes the song. It's a priceless memory of that time.

Suggestions:

a) What feels good for you. It'll transfer.

b) errrr...Willin? Sacrifice? Nice chord progressions?

c) Anything by Redgum (especially Red Raggin' or It'll be alright) ...Howard will still be PM when she's voting age and it would be good to indoctrinate her...wouldn't it?

My sister-in-law sang (in her gentlest Mummy tones) 'go to sleep you little shit or daddy will throw you out the window'.

Our three week old bub likes James Brown

Ahhh, I can remember singing "It Began In Afrika" by The Chemical Brothers, and "I Held Her In My Arms" by The Violent Femmes. Now, MissB just rolls her eyes at my choice in music :)

I second that!!

When Girlchild was born I used to sing "My Girl" all the time.

You know, the one that goes

"I've got sunshine
On a cloudy day..."
